Shorebirding Sauvie Island this morning, Aug. 7. West Side at The Narrows on Sturgeon Lake had about 200 peeps. Saw at least one Semipalmated Sandpiper among the Least & Westerns. Whole herd scattered by low-flying Peregrine Falcon. Birds too far away & too much sun glare for good viewing at The Wash but could count two dozen American White Pelican. When leaving the unit saw one Greater Yellowlegs. On the East Side had nothing along Rentenaar Road. Another (or the same) Peregrine Falcon also checked it out. Flushed a mixed flock of over 100 Great Egrets & Great Blue Herons off Racetrack Lake. Left only a few stranded carp & no shorebirds. Don Coggswell
