The little guy remained cooperative in early afternoon today, Tuesday.
Noone was there when I arrived and it took me about 30 minutes to slowly
walk through the grass/broom and locate it. About that time 3 other
birders arrived separately.
The area is filled with friendly Robins and the sparrow was friendly as
well. Although I kept about 30' away, a small group of
nearby Robins took flight and so did the sparrow, flying about 50' towards
me and landing almost at my feet. In searching for
it, walk slowly along the periphery of the broom batch which runs parallel
to the FedEx fence. Look for motion as it's usually
in constant motion, hopping and feeding actively for a short time and then
lowering it's body and raising it's tail to run quickly to a
nearby shrub, as is it's habit. After birding for almost 70 years it's
great to get a lifer occasionally. and so close to home.. See attached.
