*SAS Minto-Brown Island Park Scouting Trip Report*
Yesterday Barbara, Fred, Tim and I scouted Minto-Brown Island Park in
preparation for our Salem Audubon birding field trip on *Thursday, February
4th at 8:00 a.m*. The four of us walked 2.8 miles as we covered most of
the Purple Rabbit Loop and part of the Blue Heron Loop. The weather was
quite variable today as it started out at 48 degrees and got up to 53
degrees when the sun came out. Then it rained on and off but we didn’t get
soaked although the temperature dropped to 47 degrees. Overall it turned
out to be a better day than we thought it would at the start. We ended up
observing (saw or heard) 39 species.
The highlights were as follows:
· Saw an adult *Bald Eagle *flying above us near the start of the
trip;
· We heard one *Hutton’s Vireo* and saw another one;
· We saw six *California Quail*;
· Observed two *Pacific Wrens*;
· We also observed three *Golden-crowned Kinglets* and two *Ruby-crowned
Kinglets*;
· We were disappointed in not seeing any warblers.
