Hi all,
Sadly, with all the local listserves and WhatsApp groups, not too many rare
bird sightings make their way to OBOL anymore. But I think it is worth
mentioning that a juvenile RUFF made an appearance on McFadden Marsh (north
of the observation blind) at Finley NWR today. I was able to connect with
it around 3:30 this afternoon, and others saw it later in the day.
This is only the second documented record of Ruff in Benton County (the
first was found by Nancy Stotz at the Philomath Sewage Ponds on
September 18, 2017), and it just so happened to be County Bird number 300
for me! I wonder if it is the same bird that was reported from Ankeny a
couple of days ago.
A picture of the Ruff is attached. Hope it sticks around until tomorrow!
