This morning when I opened the bedroom curtains I was staring at an adult
red-shouldered hawk 20' away that was using the roof of our birder to roost
on. Gorgeous bird but it was gone before I even looked in the direction of
a camera. New yard bird. It was 30 minutes before the first squirrels
returned to the base of the feeder and about 40 minutes for the first jays
to return.
Yesterday afternoon I searched for the buff-breasted sandpiper at Sandpiper
Village but it was not present and there were no other shorebirds there
either. It was not seen this morning when Peter Pearsal looked for it so
it may have moved on.
