Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 5. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On April 29 a female MOURNING WARBLER was reported from Skinner¹s Butte in
Eugene. A BROWN BOOBY was seen April 30 flying north past Boiler Bay. On the
April 30 offshore boat trip out of Newport a LAYSAN ALBATROSS and a HAWAIIAN
PETREL were seen. A TUFTED DUCK was seen May 1 on Nehalem Bay off Bayside
Gardens Road.
The peak of the spring migration passed Oregon during the week with numerous
reports of lowland CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS west of the Cascades. An early
movement of SWAINSON¹S THRUSHES was reported from Coos Bay May 3. Peak
numbers of WESTERN SANDPIPERS occurred during the week with 300,000 passing
Boiler Bay April 30.
On April 27 an immature GLAUCOUS GULL was at Yaquina Bay. A BLACK-NECKED
STILT was seen May 2 along the hwy 101 Business Loop south of Astoria. A
LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Ridgefield NWR May 2. Three SANDERLINGS were at
Braughton Beach in North Portland April 30. One was along Duckflat Road
south of Salem April 29. An early PECTORAL SANDPIPER was there the next day.
A LARK SPARROW was at Timothy Lake south of Mt. Hood May 3. A SWAINSON¹S
HAWK was at Skinners Butte in Eugene April 30 On May 1 three MARBLED GODWITS
were at Fern Ridge Reservoir.
