While counting sparrows with me at Waite Ranch near Florence today, Magnus
Persmark found a female plumage Orchard Oriole. Diane Pettey and I were able
to chow down on it. No photos today.
Although this area is not open to the public, it does get regular bird counts
and with luck the bird will be seen again.
This is the same location that held two Sedge Wrens a couple of years back.
NOTE that access protocols have changed since that time owing to recent
vandalism. Do not park at the gate and walk in.
Also present today were a flock of about 15 VG Swallows, at least 11 Lincoln’s
Sparrows, a Swamp Sparrow and a White-throated Sparrow. The spizella seen
yesterday was not relocated. I reported it as a Clay-colored but some think it
was a Brewer’s. One photo was taken; it’s on eBird.
Earlier in the day, Magnus and I saw at least three Fulmar reasonably close
from Klootchman (upper overlook), along with 100 or more dark shearwaters that
generally gave the impression of Short-tailed.
