Bill, Pam & All,
Greater White-fronted Goose migration over E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area in
northeast Benton County (along the usual main track for migrants) has
seemed to be more spread out in time than usual.
Some movement of large flocks occurred in the mid-April heat wave as Pam
noted. However flocks of hundreds are still continuing to fly over on
occasion, as I alluded to in my recent backyard "goose dog" posting.
On 18 Apr Olin Allen noted a flock of 300 to 400 passing over the
vicinity of Airlie. That should have put them on a beeline for your
place in Falls City, Bill, if you connect the dots from E.E. Wilson to
Airlie,
But everything is a little strange this year. Perhaps some geese, like
primary-season voters, are veering a little more to the left or right
than usual. I've seen several flocks of white-fronts while working out
at Luckiamute State Natural Area (three miles east of E.E. Wilson),
which is moderately unusual compared to the pattern of prior decades.
Happy birding,
Joel

There was a series of night flyovers during the hot weather in April,
earlier than I expected. One night in particular was quite heavy, from
the sound. They woke me because the window was open, and I could hear
more distant flocks, too.
