We had almost the exact same experience yesterday Sunday 9/26. 3 nighthawks
came in high around 645 both species flew back and forth for about 10
minutes then disappeared. As we were about to go 1 lesser nighthawk flew in
very low and we got great looks. Another real treat were the pair of
merlins hunting on the other side of the river. Thanks to Steve kornfeld
for his knowledge and id assistance.

At least 6 birders in 2 parties gathered at the bridge and the river dike
between Page Springs c.g. and the dam, 6-7 PM. We communicated with FRS
radios. Three nighthawks came in from the south, high above the c.g.
cottonwoods and the rimrock. They foraged back and forth across the
canyon, working their way north until they were directly 3-400 feet
overhead. Good views. Both species. More photos. Dark at 7. Tim Janzen
and I saw one last bird against the red sunset after that.
