Hi Birders,
This post depends on the pic, see below, pay attention to the top left
corner of the wire barrier screen.....I'll wait.
OK then, my brother sent me this a couple hours ago and it's about as
unusual as getting a foot of snow in Portland. He tells me that it was
lucky that he was not the one building the fire tonight; he lays it so
it's instant inferno time. But tonight his wife built a much smaller one.
It was lit for some number of minutes. Tick tick tick... their daughter
and her friend were on the couch when, my brother says, they commenced
yelling. Big time: "an owl!, an owl!, there's an owl in here!". Yes,
this screech owl had flown (through the flames?) out of the chimney and
perched on the nearest thing handy. When he heard the yelling, my brother
bounded upstairs to see what was up and saw this bird perched thusly.
Incredulous, but not paralyzed , he quickly snapped the pic with his phone
and then the lot of 'em just as quickly devised a plan to shepherd the
bird out the front door. Wasn't 100% smooth but after a minor misfire he
swaddled the thing in a towel and quickly took it out onto the front porch
where, released, the owl sailed away, to all appearances totally copacetic.
