OBOLinks:
In the olden days I often birded at the local sewage lagoons. On
11/17/1997, early in the morning, I drove in and found at the foot of a
powerpole a dead Great Horned Owl with talons firmly anchored in a dead and
headless American Coot.
When I posted this on OBOL at the time, one of our favorite curmudgeons
responded that he had always been of the opinion that all the headless
coots were in Salem.
I tarped up "my" owl/coot and took it to U of O, handing it off to a
researcher who needed an owl. I didn't ask what he planned for the coot.
One should never underestimate the educational and entertainment potential
of OBOL.
