Perhaps this happened because the OBOL subscriber who made the report 1) didn’t
note the [OBOL] in front of the sender (at least that’s how it appears in my
email) and 2) the composition of the subject line. Had it said :Telephoto lens
recommendations wanted or sought (Canon) the reader might not have understood
it as a sales pitch. At least I’m guessing that was the take. Language is a
tricky thing and although I didn’t read the subject line as a sales pitch and,
in fact, responded to Duke with some advice, upon re-reading it in light of
what happened, I can see the possibility.
As Pam suggests, we can all benefit from a deep breath and hit the DELETE key
for a first offence. Leave further action for a second offence.

The first sentence below is tricky; I hope you can follow it. I've tried
rewriting it a few times, and this is the best I can do:
The Freelists.org software administrator, John, notified me that Comcast
notified him that one of OBOL's Comcast subscribers reported the following post
from OBOL (posted yesterday) to Comcast as spam. John explained that reporting
any post from OBOL as spam damages the Freelists.org reputation, which he
highly values and works hard to protect. He asked me to pass it along to our
subscribers that it is preferable to simply delete a post you aren't interested
in, rather than reporting to your email provider that OBOL generates spam.

Hi everyone,
I hope that you all are enjoying the holiday weekend and staying safe.
We have been considering investing in a telephoto lens for our canon DSL
camera. I’ve been using a Nikon B700 superzoom for years for ID purposes.
While I love its portability, weight and zoom, it leaves something to be
desired in photo quality.
We rented a Canon 100-400 from Pro Photo Supply in Portland for the weekend.
We’ve enjoyed using it, but it was a bit heavier than we anticipated and it’s
pretty expensive. We’ve also been considering an equivalent lens made by
Tamron or Sigma, which are both much less expensive, lighter, and appear to be
pretty good (maybe not Canon good, but maybe good enough).
We’re likely going to make our decision before year end. We would appreciate
any comments or feedback from the collective wisdom of the Oregon birding
community. I often seen people using a variety of photo gear while out birding
and admire the high-quality photos that often get posted here and on eBird.
