OBOL -
I searched for the White Winged Dove found by Shawneen and Dave in Hood River
County, yesterday mid-morning, yesterday evening around 7pm, and this morning
until 7am (then had to head to work). Did not re-find it.
Its a kind of semi-rural neighborhood where I felt awkward walking/standing
around with binocs and camera for too long. Plenty of people were out walking
despite the narrow shoulder, and I talked to a couple of immediate neighbors
who were friendly and one was quite interested in hearing about the WWDO.
This morning quite a few ECDOs were foraging with starlings in the large
recently-mowed field enclosed by white vinyl fencing, while others were in the
large trees surrounding the house just east. If I were to go look again I’d aim
for 7-8:30 am and be sure to check the field carefully.
I also looked for the eastern kingbird at the waterfront, but a very strong
west wind had come up making it hard to find anything but geese, swallows and a
couple of others.
Shawneen mentioned they were looking for a mourning dove. I’ve probably birded
the county more than anyone the last 3 years, and out of some 300 lists during
that time I have MODO on only 3, while ECDO is on 43. Hood River Mtn/Old Dalles
Drive is probably the most likely place to find it these days.
