Good morning all, I just wanted to announce the winning photos from the
October OBA Photo Contest. Every month it gets harder and harder to choose
just one photo (which is why we now have a top three!)
So without further ado, here are October's winning photos!
In first place came the Ruddy and Black Turnstones (juveniles) at Seal Rock
by Roy Lowe. People loved the interspecies interaction and the composition
of this photo, and I bet you will, too!
The Great- Gray Owl by Albert Ryckman came in second this month. A
beautifully stoic picture of one of our elusive Oregon birds.
Rounding out our final three is the Golden Eagle by Karl Schneck. A
beautiful flight shot with some really wonderful identification features
showcased nicely.

If you have a photo you would like to submit into the November Contest, now
is the time! Please submit a photo you took of a wild bird here in Oregon
between the months of September, October, or November. Please make sure
the bird wild and free! Meaning it is on the OBA list of countable species
(no Mandarin or Muscovy ducks, please!) And is
not in hand or in any way captured. Send me your submission by the 14th at
5pm along with your name, the species you photographed, the location the
photo was taken, and the date the photo was taken!

Ps. Here is a photo of a fledgling Great-gray owl I found earlier this
year. Much less majestic than the adults, but I feel like I relate much
more with the awkward fledglings 😁
