The flat ocean conditions the past few days has made for a really nice ride in a small boat.  Fishing has been good and seabird viewing conditions excellent.
The strangest observation yesterday occurred 6.2 miles west of Newport when a pair of osprey past by and disappeared from view headed out to sea in a NW direction!
At 7 miles west of the shore the sea surface temperature was shockingly warm at 63.5°F.  I would expect it to be 10 degrees less or so this time of year.  This could be bad news for the juvenile salmonids that headed to sea this spring.
