The Costa’s Hummingbird is now a regular feeder bird at my house, and was here
already today, friday 27 Jan. We have only one feeder, right in front of the
big window at the front of the house. Both parties who came to see it saw it
within 5 minutes of arrival. The bird is a subadult male as in Sibley second
edition, with only a few speckles of purple gorget and crown.
Folks are welcome to come look at the feeder or anywhere you like. You can
also look in the holly tree for the Costa’s, it sometimes sits there. Please
do not arrive before 8:30 AM or drive down the gravel driveway as we have
little room to park. Perhaps parking at the disused old folks home which is
about half a block E of my house. There is a big empty parking lot there.
311 SE 35th St. South Beach Oregon. My drive way is marked by a mailbox
with white birds on it.
Good luck and feel free to come and go as you please, there is not any trespass
issue here.
behind the house there is a cottage where Howard lives; he puts out a lot of
bird seed and there are lots of sparrows and towhees there: maybe you can
extract something I have not detected.
Also visiting the hummingbird feeder is ‘Piglet’, a wintering lutescens
Orange-crowned Warbler, here for his 4th winter.
