Last year I had posted that I realized I would never challenge in any of
the usual bird lists people kept and so I looked for a new list, one I
doubted anyone else kept.  Thus was born the motorless county tick list,
obtained by adding the total birds seen in all Oregon counties without the
use of a motor.  In my case this is mostly by bicycle with some birding
done on foot in Forest Park.
In 2015 I set a personal best of 648 year motorless county ticks, and
thought this was the best anyone had done as I suspected that no one else
was counting.  I thought I could beat that mark and set out in earnest this
year.  This meant more longer rides from my home in NW Portland and less
attention to Multnomah County.  In 2015 all of my rides were day trips,
while in 2016 I did one overnight trip in August that included visits to
Ankeny and Baskett-Slough.
I wound up setting personal bests in every county visited besides
Multnomah and wound up with a total of 815 motorless county ticks for the
year.  The breakdown by county is:

203  Multnomah
153  Washington
144  Columbia
115  Clackamas
91    Marion
73   Yamhill
36   Polk
During the year I also reached a milestone by passing 1000 in lifetime
motorless county ticks.
For the year I found a total of 218 motorless birds, one more than the
previous year.

And perhaps not surprisingly I also set a personal high with biking over
7000 miles for the year.
