Today I chatted with the nice lady who lives in the house by the holly
tree at the Newport mockingbird location (NE 8th and Fogarty), as she
put her recycling out by the curb for pickup. She said she had been
concerned about all the strangers with binoculars walking around near
her house, and her daughter suggested that she keep her doors locked.
Obligingly the mockingbird flew in while we visited and I was able to
show it to her and tell her about it - she was pleased to hear about
it and told me about the pair of scrub jays that are often in her
yard. They seem to be interested in setting up housekeeping in the
holly tree.
Anyway - I was wondering what people do as a general courtesy for
informing the neighbors when a rare bird shows up and attracts
birders? I'm sorry that we made her nervous - we are mostly friendly
folks! Another neighbor asked if I was realtor!
