The waterthrush Lars and Dave Haupt found was only present for a few
moments but they had diagnostic looks and heard its distinctive call. This
was just across the road from north entrance to the old Weyco settling pond
site on N Spit of Coos Bay. Several others immediately tried to relocate it
without luck. There is a small slough/creek in this area where it may still
be. This was only the 4th Coos record and a first for the Shorebird
Festival.
One of the highlights of the field trip Lars and I led were hundreds of
Cassin’s Auklets just off Cape Arago mostly sitting on the water and easy
to see- very cool!
Merry migration,
