Birded Willow Creek WMA this morning and flushed a SORA from the tall grass along Willow Creek. Ice along the creek most likely pushed the bird out into the grass. Large flocks of American robins were eating the Russian olive fruits in the area and being harassed by a Cooper's hawk. Other birds in the area included: Bewick's wrens Marsh wrens White-crowned sparrows (numerous) Golden-crowned sparrows (a few) Dark-eyed juncos Prairie falcon Red-tailed hawk Green-winged teal Gadwall Hooded merganser Mallard Barrow's goldeneye Belted kingfisher American coot Ring-necked pheasant Downy woodpecker Northern flicker Later in the day and east of Boardman, a large flock of red-winged blackbirds (in the 100's) contained a single YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD. The birds were gathering on power lines as they headed for their evening roost site.
