Well it’s that time of year where Marbled Murrelet chicks are fledging or
almost ready to leave the nest and parents are making multiple trips inland
to feed chicks. They are very vocal and so it is a good time to hear them
when they are flying overhead either going to their inland nest or
returning to the ocean from their nest. I had a keering bird at 0555 this
AM at Millicoma Marsh right overhead as I got out of my truck. The best
time to hear them is around sunrise or shortly thereafter. Since they fly
over coastal locations on the way to and fro they are worth listening for
the next week or so if you are out along the coast around sunrise- I have
had several “yard” murrelets this time of year too.
