My wife Rachel and I birded Mt. Talbert this morning and early afternoon.
We also ran into Dennis Wolfe and spent a bit of time birding with him. We
found a DUSKY FLYCATCHER in the clearing on the SE side of Mt. Talbert. We
saw it well and also heard it giving its "whit" call. There were warblers
scattered in small numbers all over the butte, but the greatest
concentration seemed to be on the SE side of the butte. I found a CASSIN'S
VIREO, a WARBLING VIREO, and a WESTERN TANAGER there. At least two male
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS were singing on the NE side of the butte. WILSON'S
WARBLERS seem to have moved into the area in a major way during the past
week and I found them in multiple areas on the butte. BLACK-THROATED GRAY
WABLERS and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were scattered everywhere over the
butte. YELLOW-RUMPED WARLBER numbers seem to have really dropped off during
the past week or so on the butte and I was only able to find one today.
Dennis told me that he had a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW along the trail on the
NE side of the butte not far from the iron bridge that crosses the small
creek there. I wasn't able to relocate it.
