There has been a Mourning Dove coming to my backyard for the past few weeks,
that has a vertical white stripe on each side of its breast, just in front of
the wing. They are about 2.5 inches high and 1/4-inch wide. All its other
markings are normal, with scattered black spots on the top of its wings.
The only other dove that is found around here, is the Eurasian collared dove
and they don't have a white stripe like that, so I don't think this bird is a
hybrid with that species. The size of this dove in my yard is typical and it's
smaller than a collared dove.
