While exploring eastern Oregon, Jeff Harding and I came across about 80
Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches coming to roost. We spent an incredible hour in a
small quarry East of Condon, just inside the Morrow county line.
All but 2 of the birds were of the gray cheeked Hepburn's subspecies. The
other two were the brown cheeked gray capped race.
An ebird checklist has been submitted with several photos.
The location of the quarry is on Hale Ridge road, about 1/2 a mile SE of
it's intersection with Hwy 206. Look for the large gravel mound. The same
mound where Paul Sullivan found a Gyrfalcon about a week ago.
