Hello OBOL,
Today I located a MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD in Marion County while conducting
wildlife surveys north of Highway 22/Big Cliff Lake.
The location is about 44.7393, -122.2598 almost two miles up (and
1700' elevation gain) an undriveable logging road. It was flycatching over
a rockslide to the north of a switchback in the trail/road.
If anyone is feeling adventurous you won't be disappointed by the variety
of species on the way up. I had lots of booming SOOTY GROUSE, visuals of a
HERMIT WARBLER, and GRAY JAYS right in the area of the bluebird. All in
all, 30 species on this hike.
The trailhead to get up there is about 1 mile east of Big Cliff Dam. It
will take at least 2.5 hours roundtrip.
