I visited Malhuer refuge this week. Monday the FBI road block was at the
intersection of Sodhouse Lane and the Road to Malhuer Field Station. When I
came through from New Princeton Wednesday they were only blocking the
driveway into refuge headquarters. Monday I entered the refuge at Buena
Vista. There was water in the ponds there. There was a large number of
waterfowl, including over 100 swans. The patrol road was blocked north of
Buena Vista, but was open in the usual stretches going south. There was
water in Benson Pond and for about a mile south. Again, there was a lot of
waterfowl, including many swans. When I was driving home yesterday I saw
about 30 Sandhill Cranes just west of the OSU Agriculture Station along HWY
205.
