I did a quick circuit of Warrenton and Fort Stevens this evening from
6pm-dusk.
A raft of unidentifiable loons (approx. 400) was a mile offshore just South
of the CRSJ. Viewable from the platform through a scope. A strong East wind
kept other stuff offshore.
Trestle Bay was lackluster on a decent low tide. Didn’t help that people
are now able to walk across it. A flock of SURF SCOTERS (150) hung out at
the entrance to the bay along with a sizeable mix of Scaup and BUFFLEHEAD.
I swung by the GREAT BLUE HERON roost in Warrenton hoping to catch them
coming in for the night and was treated with the largest numbers I’ve seen
there. In a 15 minute period I counted 56 birds landing. This was 20
minutes after sunset. Very prehistoric with all their silhouettes.
