The Lower Columbia Birders went out today under showery skies and temperatures in the lower 50's. We began by checking out the WHIMBREL flocks at Wireless Rd. We found plenty. MARBLED GODWITS, too. AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen in the Columbia River from Twilight Eagle Sanctuary. There were good numbers of PURPLE MARTINS at the Ziak Refuge. Two VIRGINIA RAILS were found along Jackson Rd in Brownsmead. But the best birds of the day (found by Steve) were 3 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS in the pond visible from the railroad tracks at Rudat Corner. Also in that pond were a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS and about 6o LEAST SANDPIPERS.
