Tom Gilg and I found a Western Meadowlark, a Western Bluebird, and three Say's
Phoebes (there could have been more) at Clear Lake in the Cascade Mountains of
Linn County yesterday. Kaplan Yalcin had counted four Say's Phoebes and a
Meadowlark earlier in the day. These were interesting to see foraging on ice by
the lodge. Pam Otley found a Meadowlark there in March three years ago.
Lower in the Cascades, at Trail Bridge Reservoir, we found more open-country
birds: four or five Mountain Bluebirds, two (at least) Say's Phoebe's, a Horned
Lark, and a Savannah Sparrow.
I'm guessing there is migration in March along the rivers either east to west
or the other way, through the Cascades, as noted in posts about Oakridge and
Willamette Pass. Detroit Flats in Marion County and Lewis Creek County Park at
Foster Lake in Linn County should be worth checking.
Good Birding,
Jeff
