Hi, Dawn -

Nice photos of the Peregrine. In fact this may be the largest Peregrine you
have ever seen. The markings are those of a hatch-year Peale's Falcon. These
are the largest Peregrines in the world, and the darkest colored in North
America. The distinctive features on hatch-year birds are the very heavy
underparts marking extending all the way up to the base of the throat, and the
"cold" tones to the dark upperparts (i.e. no reddish tones - gray-brown rather
than tan-brown, or reddish brown).

These are coastal birds from British Columbia and coastal SE and SW Alaska.
They are not very migratory, but a few, mostly youngsters, wander this far
south. I have seen one so far this fall.

I've been complaining about not having seen any Yellow-rumped Warblers for
quite awhile. Today there were Rumps everywhere, all were Myrtle that I could
see. Loosely associated with them was a single PALM WARBLER, foraging along the
shore at low tide. Got only two poor photos of it:

I walked out the spit to the ocean, where an obliging PEREGRINE FALCON flew in
and stayed around for a brief photo-shoot. It was the largest Peregrine I think
I've ever seen. Series of photos here (click right arrow to see the rest).

There were several flocks of RED CROSSBILLS, I heard PINE SISKINS but never saw
them. Plenty of Chickadees, but no Mountain (my target bird). Other fun birds
included a MERLIN, an accipiter flying across the bay that actually paused to
hunt a couple of times, and lots of little guys.
