While scouting for the Silverton CBC coming this Saturday, Joe Blowers and
myself got a clear look at a Lewis’s Woodpecker perched high in an oak tree
amongst a sizable grove of other oak. It flew off in its characteristic
fashion towards the east. The area is mixed with pasture, grass seed
fields and Douglas Fir and was on private property, not visible from the
nearby Riches Road. This is about 4 miles south of Silverton.
There have been two other sightings of LEWO, 20+ years ago, on the
Silverton CBC.
