Sorry for the late post. Nothing chaseable, so no worries, right?
Lane #1 is the area surrounding Fern Ridge Reservoir bounded by portions of
Meadowview Rd., Bodenhamer Rd., Royal Ave., Hwy. 126, K.R. Nielsen Rd. and
Cantrell Rd. on the south; Central Rd., Territorial Hwy., & Alvadore Rd. on
the west; Franklin Rd., Hwy. 36, and Milliron Rd. to the north; and Vogt
Rd., Greenhill Rd., Fir Butte Rd., and Fisher Rd. to the east.
Conditions for viewing were good. Fog early and some sun later. No
precipitation and temperatures between 42 and 45-degrees F. Visibility
ranged from one mile early to unlimited later.
The numbers:
Red-tailed Hawk - 29
American Kestrel - 24
Northern Harrier - 8
Bald Eagle - 9 adult and 15 sub-adult
Rough-legged Hawk - 4
Red-shouldered Hawk - 3
White-tailed Kite - 4 (2 north of the bathrooms at the end of Royal Ave., 1
west of the K.R. Nielsen Rd. parking lot at this road's 90-degree turn by
the railroad tracks, & 1 on Alvadore Rd.)
Merlin - 2
Peregrine Falcon - 2
Prairie Falcon - 1 (Vogt Rd.)
Accipiter sp. - 1
Turkey Vulture - 2
No northern shrike, although we do not go far enough west on the road past
the Royal Ave. gate when we do this route. I hear it has been hanging around
the observation platform.
