Today, while birding our place, I invested at least 30 minutes in watching
a small flock of GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS working directly overhead amongst
the branches of Douglas Fir trees. Watching Kinglets working high in the
branches of conifers is not ususally one's favorite time spent birding.
But personally, I prefer it to, say, watching gulls.
I quietly just blended in, braced against a tree trunk, and just watched
and listened. Of course, there was the frustration of waiting for a good
glimpse, but what an attractive little bird, when you do get a good look.
After a bit, I started catching the other species quietly hanging in the
canopy. A few VARIED THRUSHES very quietly moved through the branches.
A BROWN CREEPER appeared and started working the tree trunks very close by.
