I knew Kathy Merrifield a bit as we met birding Lincoln County. I enjoyed
her company and wit in a gathering after a Yaquina Bay CBC. I enjoyed her
"Other Nature Notes" in the Sandpiper newsletter of the Yaquina Bay Birders
and Naturalists. She wrote a wonderful piece on the Varied Thrush for Bird
Watcher's Digest several years ago.
I sent her kudos for her fine writing and received a kind "thank you" each
time. The my latest note of appreciation was sent to OBOL Jan. 7. I
received a snail mail letter from Kathy (her internet wasn't working well)
on Jan. 15.
We have lost a fine naturalist and writer.
