My final duty for the day on Friday was to check something out on the trails, I
forget what now. Whatever it was I am glad that I didn't neglect it because
while out there performing this priority task I heard, then saw, the first
osprey of the year here (as far as I know for sure) flying, perching and
calling near the nest structure at the south end of Pintail Pond. Should all
go well, this will be the fourth year that Osprey have nested here.
The nesting bald eagles at the north end have been on eggs now since ~ March 16
when both incubating behavior and copulation were observed.
In other news the water levels have dropped below 128 feet above mean sea level
meaning most - if not all - trails are accessible. For the time being the
north gate will remain closed until the potential for further flooding this
year is over. But the north end can be accessed by walking in from the south
end.
