Are we reaching a bit here, trying to see what we hope to see? After sorting
through over 150 plus at Sunday's count here in Bandon I recognize most of
these guys in the photos and as much as I wanted those to be something else,
there was one inevitable conclusion.
Still I love the post. If there is enough doubt post it. And there is enough
here to ask for assurance that I did not miss anything rare.
That said, I am afraid Anna's to me.

They only look rufous in one photo. The rest look sort of greenish-gray like
Anna's.

Hi all,
I took these photos of a hummingbird near a feeder in Independence, OR on
December 16, 2016. I initially concluded that this was a juvenile Anna's
Hummingbird, but my brother pointed out that its flanks are awfully buffy,
almost a light rufous. Is that within the range of Anna's plumage? The tail
projection seems a little on the short side too.
