Hello all,
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, I visited Martin Road (off Rockydale Rd
just south of Cave Junction, Illinois Valley, Josephine Co.)
There were conservatively over 300 Canada Geese in the field east of
the road. (I stopped counting at 230). The geese were in plain view
and I could only find 1 Cackling Goose and 1 White-Fronted Goose
among the Canadas.
What made my day was a single Adult Bald Eagle on a limb about 3 feet
from last year's nest. This nest fledged (probably. Didn't observe
the juvie leaving but it was healthy looking at fledging time) a
young eagle last year. The nest is in the riparian forest (East Fork
Illinois River) adjacent to the pasture / hayfield on the west side
of Martin Road about a quarter or third mile from the road. We'll be
looking for a second adult. Hopefully, the pair will nest successfully again.
