A Hammond's Flycatcher is calling in my backyard right now(Wed 4/19,8am). The
first
detection in 24 years. The species is downright abundant at Reeher County Park
in
Timber, as little as 10 mies due west. Once when leading his group on the grand
tour
of Oregon, Rich Hoyer came up with three Hammond's Fly at Cedar Canyon Wetland,
about three miles due south of here. He speculated it was a territorial pair
with an
interloper. I returned every day for the rest of the week and never detected
one again.
