On the morning of 9/4 Tait and I were birding on the sandy flat at
Broughton and spent a good bit of time photographing and observing an
interesting gull. To my eyes it seems like a good contender for L.g.
thayeri but it seems really early for such a bird. We went back and forth
on several other possibilities such as an unusually petite Olympic-type
hybrid, or a dark-eyed female Herring. We were gloriously interrupted with
close views of a Sabine's that came in to rest on the beach right in front
of us, and then got right back to puzzling over the bird I've placed in
"Larus sp." on the attached eBird checklist. Any help would be appreciated.
