We had 23 Greater Yellowlegs at Torvend Road Pond west of Silverton this
morning- along with good numbers of Green-winged Teal, Northern Shovelers,
American Wigeon, Canada geese.
Baskett Slough NWR had the usual huge flocks of Cacklers, and waterfowl
including Lesser Scaup, Pintail, Northern Shoveler, Green-winged Teal. Hawks
were the usual American Kestrel, Northern Harrier, and Red-tail. Also saw Great
Egret, Great Blue Heron, DC Cormorant, Common Merganser, Tree Swallows, and
American Pipit (6) up on Livermore. No luck in finding Streaked Horned Larks.
Songbirds seemed thin for us at Baskett Slough today but did hear a Western
Meadowlark and see a few Song Sparrows, Golden-crowned Sparrows and Western
Scrub Jays. Surprisingly saw no shorebirds at the refuge on this brief outing.
Good Birding,
John Thomas
