It was a beautiful morning. Many species were singing or calling all morning. Yellow-breasted Chats, MacGillivray's and Orange-crowned Warblers, Swainson's Thrushes, Black-headed Grosbeaks and Willow Flycatchers were common and vocal. Here is the entire list. California Quail Wild Turkey Turkey Vulture Red-tailed Hawk Mourning Dove Vaux's Swift Anna's Hummingbird - flying by Rufous Hummingbird - flying by, seldom sitting. Hairy Woodpecker Northern Flicker Pileated Woodpecker - heard only Olive-sided Flycatcher - at its usual nest location Western Wood-Pewee Willow Flycatcher - very common, heard everywhere Hutton's Vireo - two at a nest in an oak tree Steller's Jay Western Scrub-Jay Cliff Swallow Black-capped Chickadee Chestnut-backed Chickadee Red-breasted Nuthatch Brown Creeper Bewick's Wren Wrentit Swainson's Thrush - very common American Robin European Starling Cedar Waxwing Orange-crowned Warbler - heard constantly MacGillivray's Warbler - seen and heard, 8 - 12 birds Common Yellowthroat Black-throated Gray Warbler Yellow-breasted Chat - seen and heard, 8 - 10 birds Spotted Towhee Song Sparrow Black-headed Grosbeak - common Lazuli Bunting - one heard only Brown-headed Cowbird Purple Finch - heard only House Finch - heard only American Goldfinch Donna of Wild Birds Unlimited, Dave Brown, Ellen Cantor, Jim Regali, Randy Sinnott, Charlie Thomas, Don Schrouder, and Dennis Arendt
