Subject: Some Florence Area Birds
Alan Contreras and I birded around Florence today.
Highlights included 2 female BLACK SCOTERS and around 19 HARLEQUIN DUCKS from
Klootchman today. visibility was quite good today from Klootchman and many
Scoters were in good view.
A group of 5 HORNED GREBES from Strawberry Hill
An adult NORTHERN SHRIKE from the Lily Lake pullout, this species has been a
bit hard to come by this year.
At Siltcoos we had a flock of late BARN SWALLOWS, and a WESTERN SANDPIPER.
South Jetty still has a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK that has been hanging out for about
a week now. And a couple BONEPARTE’S Gulls in the Siuslaw.
In other news, Mew…excuse me short-billed gull numbers are increasing quite a
bit, and white-winged scoter numbers seem to be declining from the past week.
Still not Tropical Kingbirds.
All Checklists are on ebird.
Alan can add whatever else.
Good Birding
Tye J.
