Well, my first reaction was that this is 'simply' an Anna's in molt.
But then I realized it had NO adult feathering on the head nor any
signs of molt there, or anywhere else, for that matter. Hmmmm.
Eventually I found a similar photo on the web which is attached
Notice this one is beginning to molt in the head feathers,
starting from the back.
Given the time/location/probabilities I *guess *it is an Anna's.
Certainly an interesting one.

OBOL,
This male hummingbird was at our feeder this morning; we also saw it
briefly
on 30 Dec. It looks like a male Anna's Hummingbird (size, color pattern,
bill, etc) except for the lack of color on the crown and face. If anyone
has any ideas about its ID, we would like to hear them.
