Wednesday birding today visited Cold Springs CG, Suttle Lake, and
accessible areas around Santiam Pass. Nothing added on Santiam Pass,
only Ravens up there. WILLIAMSON'S pair was active around Cold Springs,
on both sides of 242 and everyone got good looks at the male. The
WHITE-HEADED WPs were in the general area, a pair of them. Otherwise it
was tough finding birds today. No forest finches, just House in town
where we gathered etc. Terrific sunshine today for the feel of spring
birding. We tried for the Eurasian Wigeon Peter Low has mentioned a few
times at the pond at Black Butte Ranch but no wigeon at all. But Barrows
Goldeneye nice. At Suttle lake we had the fewest waterfowl numbers I can
ever recall, perhaps because the ice just went off it so birds have
likely been absent since it iced over. Clair W was there kayaking and
had seen 2 Bald Eagles as she put into the water.
