Yesterday morning Dennis and I birded the Fort Rock/Cabin Lake area. We,
too, did not find Sage Grouse, though we watched the lek site from
6:35-7:20. As Judy mentioned raptors in the area were plentiful with
Rough-legged & Ferruginous Hawks, Bald and Golden Eagles and Prairie
Falcons. We found good numbers of SAGEBRUSH SPARROWS on the road to Cabin
Lake along with a singing SAGE THRASHER. There were good numbers of birds
at Cabin Lake in spite of the nasty weather including a CLARK'S NUTCRACKER
and a noisy flock of 60 PINYON JAYS. Other birds at Fort Rock included a
BARN OWL and Dennis spotted An early WHITE-THROATED SWIFT.
