On Dec 19, sixteen folks set out in pretty much continuous rain to count birds
on the Forest Grove CBC. We finished with 112 species which about average.
Below, the number in parentheses denotes the number of times, out of 32, that
the species was detected on a Forest Grove CBC. I'm reporting out when this
number is less than 50%. Also highlighted are very low and high tallies for
certain species.
Greater White-fronted Goose (15) - 5 at Fernhill Wetlands
Snow Goose (10) - 6 at Golf Course Rd
Cinnamon Teal - record high with 26 birds
Canvasback - near record low with 4 birds
Ring-necked Duck - record low with 90 birds
RED-THROATED LOON (4) - 1 at Hagg Lake relocated by Rick Bennett
Red-necked Grebe (8) - 3 at Hagg Lake, also tying the record high. This species
has become more common.
Red-shouldered Hawk (15) - 4 birds total at various locations
GLAUCOUS GULL (5) - 1 first cycle bird along Reiling Rd found by Shawneen & Dave
Rock Pigeon - all time low with only 5 birds
SAY'S PHOEBE (3) - 1 bird along Reiling Rd found by Shawneen & Dave
Chestnut-backed Chickadee -- near record low with only 14 birds
Red-breasted Nuthatch - near record low with only 3 birds
Pacific Wren - record low with only 4 birds
Cedar Waxwing (12) - 4 birds at Jackson Bottom
Orange-crowned Warbler (8) - a record 3 birds, all in the Fernhill Wetlands
sector
Missed altogether (i.e. seen on 20+ counts, but not this time) were Trumpeter
Swan, Pileated Woodpecker, Hutton's Vireo and American Pipit.
Count week birds include Common Loon, Sora, Mountain Quail, Ring-billed Gull
and American Dipper.
