Jim Houseman and I birded clockwise around Fords Pond, W of Sutherlin, this
morning from about 0800-1100. Fog was pea soup thick at first, but
gradually cleared. A vocal pair of BALD EAGLES seemed to have scared off
half the waterfowl, but all normal species were present.
Notable detections include:
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT--single bird calling in marsh
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW --single bird, photos
NORTHERN SHRIKE--immature bird just below Church Rd on way back, photos
MERLIN--large, probably female, chasing birds.
No pelican, scoters, or swamp sparrow.
