Greetings, all!
Hendrik and I spent a fun day birding the central coast today with Isaac
Denzer and Kai and Ben Frueh. We started in Florence, hoping to relocate
the BRAMBLING, but it was a no-show for us. There was a lot of bird
activity in the neighborhood, including a lone BAND-TAILED PIGEON (a FOY
for all of us).
After missing the Brambling, we decided make the best of the rest of the
day and birded our way north to Newport. Highlights included a TREE SWALLOW
along the highway just north of Ona Beach and great looks at 3 LONG-TAILED
DUCKS and a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE at the Newport South Jetty, along with
many of the usual suspects.
We finished the day on a successful note when Kai spotted the NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRD in its customary location at 8th and Fogarty - a state bird for
all of the boys!
Except for a bit of rain on our drive north, the weather cooperated nicely,
and a good time was had by all!
