Hello all,
Oscar and I did a little first-of-year birding at Finley NWR and the
Philomath Sewage Ponds today. The most unexpected sighting was a lone BARN
SWALLOW that circled over the Philomath Sewage Ponds. It was also seen by
Howard Bruhner.
Also at the sewage ponds, at least 4 TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS continued with
the big blackbird flock in the SW corner (which also contained at least one
BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD), and the 2 male CINNAMON TEAL have now moved to the
NW pond.
At the Bruce Road scrape pond at Finley, the female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was
still swimming to and fro, although it appears to have lost its female
Bufflehead companion.
Otherwise, it was quite birdy and pleasantly sunny once the freezing
morning fog finally lifted, but we found nothing else out of the ordinary.
