Made a brief run down to Finley this morning, mainly to check for
shorebirds.

The lone SANDHILL CRANE that has been hanging out at the Prairie Overlook
was still way out in the field to the south of the observation platform. I
didn't spot any kingbirds today.

The muddy area on the back side of Cabell Marsh hosted a large-ish flock of
peeps (25 DUNLIN, 80 LEAST and 15 WESTERN SANDPIPERS), 3 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 2 KILLDEER and about 40 DOWITCHERS (which flew as I approached;
I only heard LONG-BILLS calling).

Also at Cabell Marsh were 2 calling AMERICAN BITTERNS, 2 SORAS ad a VIRGINA
RAIL. A GREAT HORNED OWL was hooting from the southwest edge of the marsh,
and a distant RING-NECKED PHEASANT was sounding off somewhere east of
Pigeon Butte.

Happy migration

Hendrik
